Specialty Systems

Where cementitious SFRM won't do — exposed architectural steel, industrial process equipment, facade cavities — NL Fireproofing selects from a range of specialty systems matched to the substrate, the rating and the aesthetic requirement.

HOW IT WORKS

Thin-film intumescent coatings expand dramatically under heat to form an insulating char around the steel, delivering fire ratings without the bulk of cementitious systems. They are specified wherever exposed structural steel must remain visually clean.

Fire-rated board systems, cavity barriers and specialty spray plasters round out the offer for facades, plant rooms and applications where standard SFRM is impractical. Each system is selected from tested designs and documented at handover.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can intumescent paint provide ASTM E119 fire ratings?

Yes, thin-film intumescent coatings expand to form an insulating char that provides up to 2-hour fire resistance ratings in accordance with ASTM E119 and UL 263 testing standards for structural steel.

Are specialty systems accepted under BNBC 2020 Part 4?

Specialty fire protection systems, including intumescent coatings and fire-rated board encasements, are fully recognized under BNBC 2020 Part 4 as long as they are backed by proper test reports and applied to the manufacturer’s specified thickness.
